We start at the sixth floor this time, and if you have not tuned into the previous book reviews, you need to do that or read up until this point. I leave stuff out of these reviews, so please read the actual books for the juicy bits. Let's dive in.
At this point it is hard to sum up this book. This floor is the hunters versus the crawlers. With the help of the cookbook we all know and love, Carl and Donut and most of their friends make it through to the end of the level. At this point, that great goat Prepotente breaks the seventh level and plunges all of them into the eighth level. Unfortunately, we lose some great crawlers on the way. We also learn Lucia is a lot of people in one body, all children.
Review
I already knew something was wrong with Lucia Mar. In this book we learn that she is multiple personalities in one body, which explains some of the interaction with Donut in that ursine town. Someone is controlling her to be an absolute monster, so my one friend was right for theorizing Lucia wasn't a complete monster. Did she crucify an ursine and carve "leche" on their belly for not giving her milk? Yes, but I think that was only one of the personalities. Another personality was a dutch girl scared out of her mind. The dungeons really do mess with people. She shouldn't be here.
Speaking of shouldn't be here, the AI is used - bought used already. It was already broken when they got it, which is probably why Lucia Mar isn't being taken from the dungeon. It has gone rogue. It is not listening to the rules. We are also looking at Valtay taking over, so the whole dungeon was already broken when players entered. Borant did a horrible job and cheaped out.
Now we get to Prepotente, who not only lost Miriam Dom, but broke level 7 while the announcer begged him not to. It was amazing! Miriam Dom was killed, which cured all vampirism. Prepotente (Pony) got revenge and leveled up to 71 by the end of the book. He is now just as bent on breaking the game, if not more so, as Carl is. This guy is unstoppable.
The Butcher's Masquerade is a whole thing. Basically, I'm leaving that whole chaotic mess at the end a mystery. Read it yourself. As the friend lending me the book told me, make sure you have a whole block of time to read the end. If you have five minutes before work or something and you get to that point, bookmark and come back when you have an entire afternoon. Believe me. You'll see why when you get there.
Conclusion
Five stars. No notes. Loved it. Read it yourself. I'm leaving review links below so you can catch up if you need to.
