On The Way To The Wedding - a Bridgerton Review

 Today we review Bridgerton book eight, which is Gregory in the line of Bridgerton siblings. This will probably be spicy. Let's get into it. 




This was a rather tame Bridgerton, featuring Lucy and Gregory (Bridgerton child #7). We have one sex scene, but a lot of adventure. We start with a prologue where Gregory is crashing a wedding. From there, we rewind it back to see how he got there, then continue forward. We have an arranged marriage, blackmail, treason, and a fascinating wedding afterparty. 

Review

I loved this one. Five stars, no notes. This had me wondering what would happen next. Lucy is arranged to marry someone (who is not into women). Gregory meets her while pursuing her cousin Hermione. After a while, they get the idea that they like each other. Hermione is caught messing around with Lucy's brother at a masquerade ball, so Hermione is off the table by now. 

This is where things go off the rails. When Lucy expresses to her Uncle (who doesn't care about her at all) that she wishes to call off her arranged marriage, he reveals a treason blackmail against her father (which is really her Uncle's treason). She goes into the marriage under coercion. They go through with the ceremony. Gregory decides he needs a reason she said no to his wedding-crashed proposal (technically his second proposal to her), then finds her hiding from her own afterparty. He gets the truth and grabs some help to save her from the marriage. It turns out her fiance/husband is not into her anyway, so they haven't consummated the marriage and he is okay with anulling the whole thing. 

This one was a wild ride. The second epilogue will tear your heart out, because Lucy nearly dies having twins. Oof! She survives, but my goodness, it was a little distressing. 

Conclusion

This was a five star read, much like all the other Bridgertons. I've now read the original eight Bridgertons. Huzzah!

 Laurel and Hardy are a pair of comedians I grew up watching, despite the fact they were popular in the 1930s. My dad loves their work and that era of film. Today let's look at their history. One by One by Ruth Ware - A book review

 This book was an easy five stars. It's one of those books where you're just waiting for something to go wrong. The tension is already piano-wire tight and only tightens by the end. I didn't predict the murderer until the end setup made it obvious and said it outright. Let's get into it.  We have two perspectives in this whole book, both women. It reminded me of The Hitchcock Hotel or a modern twist on an Agatha Christie novel. Ware's a modern Agatha Christie. If you like Christie's stuff, you'll love this. Basic plot, a bunch of coworkers (all rich and kind of hipster) get snowed in after an accident on the slopes. As the lights go out, the heat wanes, and everyone gets more and more upset, things get worse. Someone is now dead in the chalet and they don't know who did it. Worse, help has not come, yet.  Spoiler territory So, you want to be surprised by the culprit? Don't read on just yet. It was a twist that made sense and yet, took me by surprise....

Ben Hur (1925) - a silent film review

 I watched the 1925 Ben Hur, a silent film that made me cry a bit. It was good. I'm putting the video link in this blog post. Keep in mind it is about 2.5 hours long. It doesn't feel long, though.  Courtesy of San Francisco Silent Film Festival Alright, let's get into plot. This is the story of Judah Ben Hur, paralleled with the story of Jesus. This was remade in 1960. Both chariot scenes were deadly.  1925's scene killed five horses with their trip mechanism (on accident). 1960's movie killed a stuntman in this same scene. Obviously, that scene is hard to film and hard to arrange without accidental death. All that being said, let's jump into Judah Ben Hur's storyline.  Judah Ben Hur, a jew, gets betrayed by a friend who has become a Roman soldier, where he ends up in a ship's galley as a slave.
